I have no clue how well known Arnaud Fleurent-Didier is in France. Nor do I know very much about him at all. You really don't see his name floating around on the internet too often. La Reproduction (2009) has grown to be one of my favourite records and it's on high rotation lately as summer has finally arrived. This is a well-rounded, feel-good record with amazing Gainsbourg-esque French Pop instrumentation and melodies. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Local heroes Fist City team up with Vancouver's Timecopz for what will be one of my picks for 7" of the year i'm sure. Julie Doiron used to be half of the infamous SHOTGUN & JAYBIRD With James Kilpatrick AKA SHOTGUN JIMMIE. Jimmie has been touring these north american lands for years, guitar in his lap, drums in front of his feet, always a pleasure to see, a one man band hero. Still Jimmie has the rock n' roll hooks, cha cha cha finishes, bap bap bah drums and strummstrummin' you could EVER need. I think this video says more than i ever could. Totally and truly essential listening. (i'm looking for his previous album it is also great)

HILARIOUS.

This is such a witty little release from some witty guys in Edmonton. Not only is this album an amazing light-hearted satire on general music culture, the songs are fucking good. That is, if you have a soft spot for home recorded cymbal washed post-ironic madness. Which I am more than sure we all do. These guys are all really good musicians who have played in tons of innovative Edmonton bands, but this excites in a whole new way. Young Santas bring an extra element to this that is not to common on releases these days. The bonus subversive hilarity simply insures you will have fun listening to this.

Today i bought a copy of Bill Orcutt's 2nd LP on Palilalia Records and i might be more taken with it than i was his first (and i still haven't stopped playing that one). Ex-Harry Pussy frontman uses his guitar like he's smashing an 18 century sewing machine with a chainsaw on high. The vocals on this album and unreal, the last track is perfect, feedback squeal attempts to engulf, Bill plays till he can't keep up with himself, a shriek rings out; it might have come from his guitar. You can hear people shouting 'encore!' There isn't one.

First Stone Killer of 2k11 is Dirty Beaches' Badlands. If you don't know his unique brand of inside out guitar rockabilly nightmare shift, just think about the soundtrack to the best Russ Meyer movie never made. I cant write about music anymore just dig it i promise it's really good.

Dylan Khotin Foote, AKA Kumon Plaza, AKA AKA HAPPY TRENDY certainly has an instinct for meticulous simplicity. One can tell he nails what hes going for, melodically and tonally, the latter a trait so often disregarded yet so important. Hailing from Edmonton, my former hood, I know first hand the extent he exudes that barren edmontonian desolation, an ice cold cynicism plagued with thoughts of escape. There really is nothing more satisfying to me than listening to something one can relate to and this WILL make you feel something. For me its fucking DEADmonMurderton BUT i like it.

Think Casiotone but realer.

I forgot it was Christmas but i scrounged around and found you something i think you will really like. Moon Duo's Silver Bell's 7" isn't exactly what you would expect from a wooden shjips side project christmas song 7" . At times more reminiscent of Ducktails, definitely a summer sound for the winter, but both songs on this single are too good.
